Blog on the radio

This morning on BBC Radio Cleveland, in a feature promoting road safety, the Cleveland Camera Safety Partnership were waxing lyrical about the benefits of speed cameras.
.

"We must all learn to love speed cameras" they enthused, in a line that could have been lifted straight from the pages of Orwell's 1984.
.
The editor of this blog, upon hearing this outrage, immediately picked up the 'phone (as he does), drawing attention to our postings on 'speed cameras'. Live on air, pages from this blog were read out to listeners in the North of England by the BBC presenters.

Our point is that speed is not the primary cause of accidents in this country. The main cause of fatal accidents is bad driving and speed cameras do nothing to prevent bad driving.

However, the British public are being force fed propaganda - and worse still accepting it - that speed cameras save lives, when in fact statistics show that they cost lives.
